On February 5, 2013 I posted the article 'Sweater Coats for Spring.' In the article I stitched Saf-T Pocket Patterns Journey Jacket Two in magenta acrylic/metallic knit fabric. The sweater has front patch pockets, a loose fit, and the body is lined in charmeuse. I wore the sweater a few times and received compliments on it. The problem was that I felt dowdy in it. After much analysis I determined the problem was the mid calf length. An above knee length skirt combined with flat loafers and the mid calf sweater was not flattering. Trousers looked better but still not great. The original sweater coat is pictured at left.
After removing six inches of length and angling the hem at center front, the sweater is more interesting and flattering. It was disappointing (and time consuming) to alter a garment that was brand new, but design mistakes happen.
Here is the altered sweater coat.
A much happier wearer.
