Four Knit Garments

Earlier in July, I purchased five yards of jade green knit from Vogue Fabrics.  Inspired by peplums, I created the Fantasia Jacket by Kayla Kennington.  The pattern pieces are rectangles and triangles.  The edges are a serged rolled hem stitch.  The edges are abutted and zigzag stitched together.  An unusual interpretation of a peplum.
The back view shows just how uneven the hem intentionally is.
Five yards of 60" fabric goes a long way, so I also stitched my favorite tee, Sunny's Top from Silhouette Patterns.  All edges, except the neckline, are raw.
There are bust darts under the layers to improve bust and armhole fit.  The angled overlays are on both the front and back.
I haven't sewn with floral prints much lately, except for the Dior two dress ensemble from May/June 2013.  I made Sunny's Top in the floral knit, also from Vogue.

Lastly, I tried the Ivy Knit Top from styleARC patterns.  The pattern is great because the side and shoulder seams are moved to the front, displaying a contrast fabric so nicely.
The top is longer in back than front, which is a nice, unexpected style detail.  The pattern is long; I shortened the top 2 1/2".
Another benefit of using two fabrics is you can utilize large scraps in your stash.  The back panel is large, but the front and sleeves require very little fabric.
Knit tops are usually fun and easy, at least the projects I choose.  When I'm super busy or a bit tired, I switch to knit tops so I can complete a project quickly and feel a sense of accomplishment.  Most people I know mix couture projects with intermediate and simple ones, but it's great to sew whatever you enjoy.

  2. I found you after looking at a pinterest picture of adding a fur collar to a coat. I have looked at every entry you have made. I love the detailed pictures and the beautiful garments you have created. Thanks for taking time to share. I am a lifelong garment stitcher and more recently a quilter. Have been frustrated with fitting issues as I have gotten older and gained weight, but I am determined to get back to it. Thanks again
